"Satisfy Us"

Scripture: Psalm 90:14
Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days.

Observations:
"Satisfy us."  I love that prayer.  It's probably because it's been the prayer of my heart so often... "Fill me up… Be enough for me… make me content."

I was talking to one of my girls about this earlier in the week.  We spend so much of our lives feeling unsatisfied.  And what's worse, we believe in lies about what will satisfy us.

  • "When I get my driver's license…"
  • "When I go to college and have more freedom…"
  • "When this research project is over…"
  • "When summer comes…"
  • "When I make my parents proud of me…"
  • "When 200 people like my selfie on Instagram…
  • "When I get a promotion…"
  • "When I have a baby…"
  • "When I accomplish something amazing…"
All of these things are good things (except arguably the selfie according to Prince Harry), and all of them will give you a huge burst of satisfaction…. for a while.  But the thing is, that feeling doesn't last very long, and then we are already looking towards the next thing promising to fill us up.

Just as Jesus said to the woman at the well in John 4:13-14, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Application:
You know what does satisfy?  UNFAILING LOVE.  Never-ending, over-flowing, always-enough, ever-present, abundant, unfailing love.  And this verse doesn't just say that if we let that be our satisfaction, we will feel okay.  It says that we will sing for joy and that we will be glad.  That's what I want.  I don't want a temporary burst of okay-ness from some empty promise.  I want real joy and real gladness and real satisfaction.

Isaiah 58:11 says, "And the Lord will guide you continually and satisfy your desire in scorched places and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail."

Do you feel a little scorched?  Let the Lord water you this morning.  His water is always enough.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, you are amazing!  You are always enough.  God, I am sorry that I have believed lies about what would satisfy me in this world.  I know that only you can.  Please help me to turn to you each morning to satisfy me.  Help me to find my joy in you.  In Jesus' name!  Amen!

Confident in this…
Miranda
